Mac DeMarco is no stranger to unusual performances, but this one was special. This night at The Ford marked the first night of the tour for Mac’s album, "Five Easy Hotdogs."

Mac DeMarco kicked off his sold-out tour with an amazing opening night at The Ford in Los Angeles on July 14, 2023. In his iconic green utility vest, Mac DeMarco and his band took the stage with screams and cheers right around 8 o'clock. Mac started off performing his instrumental album "Five Easy Hotdogs" front to back. Comedic humor and fan engagement go hand-in-hand at DeMarco’s show. Since The Ford is a very tiny outdoor venue, Mac could hear everything from the crowd and poked fun at anyone who yelled out song requests. Once Mac announced that there were only "three dogs left" on the album to perform, the crowd started booing for more. Mac jokingly said, "They’re booing because I’m actually going to start singing with words."

Once the band finished "Five Easy Hotdogs," the band proceeded to go into the core of Mac’s discography, starting with Salad Days, which got the crowd roaring. Mac mentioned in the beginning how he’s growing away from how he used to do shows and is trying the more relaxed acoustic shows, which he has seemed to enjoy so far. Once Mac announced there were only a couple of songs left, the crowd cheered for an encore. Mac said he doesn't do encores, then proceeded to jokingly take his band to the side of the stage to “hide," then came back out a few moments later. He ended off with Chamber of Reflection and Still Together. Mac and his band went through a variety of songs off all his albums and even played some songs off “One Wayne G” for the first time ever. I was skeptical about Mac's new way of performing but then left the concert exceeding my expectations. Mac put on a beautiful show full of love songs, humor, and appreciation for acoustic sets.
